One City, Two Climates of Ground
Hydroseeding in Aurora means working across a city that rises almost 1,000 feet from one corner to the other. The lowest point, about 5,285 feet, sits where Sand Creek crosses the northwest city limit, while the highest ground, around 6,229 feet, is on the far southern edge in Douglas County near Inspiration and Gartrell roads. A lawn in the north end and a lawn in the far south can face noticeably different wind exposure and soil, so we do not treat the city as one job.
Storm season and new seed
Aurora is east of I-25 and gets more tornado warnings and hail than Denver, with storm season running roughly April through July. Hail can pound freshly sprayed mulch and wash seed downhill on sloped yards. On graded lots facing that risk we lean toward a heavier mulch rate, tackifier, or a bonded fiber matrix on banks so the cover stays put through a storm.
A city built from subdivisions
Aurora grew into the fastest-growing city in the country in the late 1970s and early 1980s and is made up of hundreds of subdivisions. Much of our work here is new lawn installation on recently built homes, where builders often leave thin topsoil over compacted subgrade. We regrade low spots away from foundations, add topsoil and then hydroseed.
Prairie edges
Cherry Creek State Park on the city's southwestern edge is natural prairie and wetland around an 880-acre reservoir. Homes and commercial sites that back onto prairie open space often look better with a native grass mix on the back edge and a turf lawn near the house. We can spray both in one visit with separate tanks.
Redeveloped bases
Lowry Air Force Base, which straddled the Aurora and Denver line, closed in 1994 and became a master-planned community, and the former Fitzsimons hospital grounds are now the Anschutz Medical Campus. Large redevelopment sites like these rely on silt fence, inlet protection and staged hydromulch to keep sediment on site while construction moves through phases.

Aurora Questions
Will a hailstorm wash out new hydroseed in Aurora?
A hard storm can move mulch and seed on slopes. We use tackifier, heavier mulch or bonded fiber matrix on banks to reduce that, and we look at spots that need a touch-up after big storms.
Is seeding different in south Aurora than in the north end?
It can be. The south end is several hundred feet higher and often more exposed, so we adjust timing and mulch rates to the site.
Can you seed native grass behind my house and turf in front?
Yes. We run separate mixes so the open-space edge gets native grass and the main lawn gets turf seed.
Do you work on large Aurora redevelopment sites?
Yes. Silt fence and inlet guards go in first, and as each section of an Aurora subdivision reaches final grade, we hydromulch the disturbed ground in phases.
