Seeding on Littleton's River Side
Hydroseeding in Littleton is tied closely to the South Platte River. Most of the city lies on the east side of the river, and several small tributaries flow northwest through town toward it: Big Dry Creek, Slaughterhouse Gulch, Lee Gulch and Dad Clark Gulch. A string of lakes and reservoirs sits along the river in the southwest part of the city, and Chatfield Reservoir lies just beyond.
An irrigation engineer's town
Littleton is named for Richard Sullivan Little, an engineer who came west to build irrigation systems and settled here in the early 1860s. The Rough and Ready Flour Mill followed in 1867. That farming history means some older parts of town still have deep, decent soil, while newer areas were built on graded ground with little topsoil left. We check before we seed.
Gulch lots
Homes that back onto Lee Gulch, Dad Clark Gulch or Slaughterhouse Gulch commonly have a slope down to the channel. Those banks are a classic place for erosion control: hydroseed with a deep-rooting mix, an erosion control blanket on the steeper parts, and wattles at the toe while it establishes.
The 1965 flood and Chatfield
Chatfield Dam was built after a flood in 1965, and the land around it became Chatfield State Park. Its 1,423-acre reservoir is fed by the South Platte and Plum Creek. Riverside and lakeside projects in and around Littleton should keep sediment out of these waters, so we use silt fence and inlet protection whenever soil is disturbed nearby.
Established neighborhoods
Littleton incorporated in 1890, and many of its neighborhoods are long settled. A lot of our work here is lawn repair: overseeding thin turf, patching areas damaged by construction or utility work, and regrading low spots that hold water near foundations.

Littleton Questions
My yard drops down to Lee Gulch. Can that bank be seeded?
Yes. We hydroseed with a deep-rooting mix, use an erosion control blanket on steeper parts and place wattles at the bottom while it grows in.
Will my Littleton project near the South Platte need silt fence?
If disturbed soil drains toward the river or a lake, silt fence and inlet protection are a good idea, and they may be required for permitted work.
Can you patch my lawn after a sewer line or utility repair?
Yes. We regrade the trench area, add topsoil and seed it so the strip matches the surrounding Littleton lawn once it grows in.
My older Littleton yard holds water near the house. What helps?
Regrading so the ground slopes away from the foundation, then seeding the disturbed area, usually solves it.
